Abstract. Purpose:To evaluate the effect of 0.1% olopatadine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution for allergic conjunctivitis. Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 34 eyes of 17 patients who were treated by topical antiallergic medications for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis the previous year. The series comprised 3 males and 14 females. The age ranged from 23 to 79 years, average 46 years. Five patients were wearing contact lens. Instillation of olopatadine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution was started after the patients noted itchiness as sign of allergic conjunctivitis. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by visual analogue scale comparing the subjective symptoms of previous year. Hyperemia of bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva was objectively evaluated. Results:Score for itchiness averaged 6.59 just prior to treatment and 3.91 after 2 weeks of treatment. Suppression of itchiness improved from 4.63 during the previous year to 7.38 after treatment. Conclousion:Olopatadine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution is effective for allergic conjunctivitis.
