Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of dislocated intraocular lens(IOL)due to formation of Soemmering's ring. Case:A 31-year-old female developed total retinal detachment following blunt trauma to her right eye. Two week after injury, she received vitrectomy, pars plana lensectomy, scleral encircling, and pneumatic retinopexy resulting in reattached retina. Anterior and posterior capsules were preserved as rings of the same size. One year later, she received secondary insertion of sulcus-fixated IOL. Visual acuity improved to 0.9 and 1.2 without and with correction respectively. Visual acuity became 0.2 and 1.2 without and with correction respectively 22 months later. The lower potion of IOL was displaced forwards by thickened Soemmering's ring. The displaced IOL became less apparent during the following 4 months until present. Conclusion:Following pars plana lensectomy, ring-shaped anterior and posterior capsules may form Soemmering's ring which may displace intraocular lens with refractive errors.
