Abstract. Purpose:To identify factors related to improvement of uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA)after orthokeratology. Cases and Method:This study was made on 40 eyes of 20 myopics treated by orthokeratology. The series comprised 5 males and 15 females. Their age averaged 31.2±3.9 years. All had myopia of spherical equivalent of -4.0 diopters or less. Results:UCVA improved to 1.0 in 26 eyes(65%)after one week of treatment. It remained 0.7 or less in 8 eyes(20%)after 4 weeks of treatment. All the 8 eyes had myopia of -3.0 diopters or more. Refraction in the above 26 eyes improved by 2.59±0.74D after 1 week and by 2.68±0.91D after 4 weeks. Refraction in the above 8 eyes improved by 1.91±0.79D after 1 week and by 1.88±0.97D after 4 weeks. There was no difference between the two groups regarding astigmatism, e-value, corneal thickness or duration of contact lens wear. Initial flat K was smaller in the 8 eyes than in 26 eyes. Both groups showed decreased corneal thickness after 4 weeks of treatment. Conclusion:After ortho-keratology, UCVA improved earlier in eyes with myopia of -3.0 diopters or less and with greater flat K value.
