Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of vitreous surgery for neovascular glaucoma. Cases:Vitreous surgery was performed on 28 eyes of 25 cases of neovascular glaucoma during the past 10 years. The age ranged from 35 to 77 years, average 60 years. Neovascular glaucoma was secondary to diabetic retinopathy 21 eyes and central retinal vein occlusion 7 eyes. Results:Rubeosis iridis regressed in 15 eyes(54%)within one month of surgery. Additional surgery had to be performed on 27 eyes(96%)to reduce intraocular pressure(IOP). IOP remained over 21mmHg in 3 eyes(11%)after additional surgeries. Conclusion:Vitreous surgery alone may not induce control of IOP in neovascular glaucoma. Retinal photocoagulation may become possible after vitreous surgery by eliminating opacity of the media.
