Abstract. We performed simultaneous vitreous and cataract surgery in 40 eyes using one-piece PMMA intraocular lens(IOL). We evaluated the difference between predicted and actual refraction. Another series of 89 eyes that received cataract surgery alone served as control. PMMA IOL was inserted in 50 eyes and acryl IOL in 39 eyes. The difference between predicted and actual refraction averaged-0.15±0.55 diopter(D)in simultaneous group,+0.25±0.62D in controls receiving PMMA IOL,and+0.29±0.71D in controls receiving acryl IOL. The actual postoperative error shifted more towards myopia in simultaneous group than simple surgery group. There was no significant difference in the error of refraction between PMMA and acryl IOL in simple surgery group.
