  • Look Inside

A 35-year-old male presented with decreased visual acuity. He had multiple neurofibromas on his face and generalized café-au-lait spots. He had been diagnosed with type 1 neurofibromatosis. His family history was negative. His corrected visual acuity was 0.01 right and counting fingers left. The axial length was 32.2mm right and 33mm left. The right eye had myopia of-11 diopters. The left eye had strabismus fixus, which had become more pronounced along with his growth. Cataract surgery on the right eye resulted in improvement of visual acuity to 0.2. Recession-advancement of horizontal muscles in the left eye redused the strabismus. Strabismus fixus in type 1 neurofibromatosis. Presence of neurofibroma in the orbit appears to be the cause of strabismus fixus in the present case.
