We reviewed 45 eyes that received vitreous surgery with adjunct use of triamcinolone acetonide. The series comprised diabetic retinopathy 15 eyes, retinal detachment 13 eyes, macular hole 5 eyes, macular hole retinal detachment 4 eyes, macular edema 4 eyes, epiretinal membrane 3 eyes, and vitreous hemorrhage 1 eye. We paid particular attention to intra-and postoperative complications. Another series of 45 eyes that received surgery without triamcinolone served as control. Intraoperative retinal tear developed in none of triamcinolone group and in 5 eyes(11%)of control group. The difference was significant(p<0.05). Postoperatively, macular pucker developed in none of triamcinolone group and in 2 eyes(4%)of control group. There were no differences between the two groups regarding postoperative retinal detachment, neovascular glaucoma, endophthalmitis, and persistent corneal epithelial lesion. The findings show that adjunct use of triamcinolone in vitreous surgery does not show significant intra-or postoperative complications.
