  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We performed simultaneous cataract and vitreous surgery on 34 eyes. The series comprised proliferative diabetic retinopathy 31 eyes, branch retinal vein occlusion 2 eyes, and central retinal vein occlusion 1 eye. Their ages ranged from 31 to 72 years, average 52 years. They were followed up for 3 to 6 months after surgery. Out of the 34 eyes, randomly selected 20 eyes received 10 mg of triamcinolone acetonide towards the end of surgery. The other 14 eyes did not receive this procedure. Postoperatively, these two groups showed no significant differences regarding visual acuity expressed as logMAR or foveal thickness measured by optical coherence tomography(OCT). The findings show that intraoperative triamcinolone does not influence postoperative visual acuity nor foveal thickness.
