Purpose:To report the effect of retrobulbar triamsinolone injection for central retinal vein occlusion. Cases and Method:The study involved 6 eyes of 5 patients of central retinal vein occlusion. Their ages ranged from 38 to 71 years, average 60 years. They were followed up for 3 to 11 months, average 7 months. Each eye received 20 mg of triamcinolone acetonide through transconjunctival retrobulbar injection. Results:The visual acuity averaged 0.16 before treatment and 0.36 at the final follow up. Retinal hemorrhage decreased in 4 eyes. It disappeared in 2 eyes. All eyes showed reduced macular edema with positive foveal depression. Three eyes showed recurrence of macular edema necessitating retreatment. Conclusion:Retrobulbar injection of triamcinolone was easy and free of complications. It was effective in improvement of fundus findings and visual acuity in central retinal vein occlusion. Occasional recurrence of macular edema remains a major problem.
