Effect of topical brinzolamide on corneal endothelial cells

開放隅角緑内障31例31眼に1％ブリンゾラミド1日2回点眼を追加し，角膜に及ぼす影響を検索した。対象は原発開放隅角緑内障18眼と正常眼圧緑内障13眼で，年齢は37～80歳，平均61歳であった。追加点眼開始から3か月と6か月後の角膜内皮細胞密度は，点眼開始前よりも有意に減少した（p＜0.0001）。中心角膜厚と六角形細胞出現率には，点眼開始前と6か月後とで有意な変化がなかった。緑内障型，追加点眼開始前の眼圧とそれまでに使用していた抗緑内障薬の種類は，角膜内皮細胞密度減少率と中心角膜厚の変動に影響しなかった。1％ブリンゾラミド1日2回点眼は，点眼6か月間では角膜内皮の形状と角膜厚に大きな影響を与えないと結論される。

We evaluated the effect of 1％ brinzolamide on the corneal morphology in 31 eyes of 31glaucoma patients. The series comprised 18 eyes of primary open-angle glaucoma and 11 eyes of normal-tension glaucoma. The ages ranged from 37 to 80 years,average 61 years. The endothelial cell density significantly decreased after 3 and 6 months of instillation（p＜0.0001）. There was no significant change in central corneal thickness or incidence of hexagonal cells after 6 months of instillation. Endothelial cell density and central corneal thickness were independent on type of glaucoma,baseline intraocular pressure,or medication before start of brinzolamide. The findings show that instillation of 1％ brinzolamide twice daily does not seem to affect the central corneal thickness or morphology of corneal endothelial cells.
