Abstract. Purpose:To report hypotensive effect of beta-blocker and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor in eyes treated by topical latanoprost. Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 16 eyes of 16 patients treated by latanoprost. The series comprised 8 eyes of primary open-angle glaucoma and 8 eyes of normal-tension glaucoma. All the 16 patients started receiving 0.5% gel-forming timolol. Randomly selected 7 patients also received 1% dorzolamide. Intraocular pressure(IOP)was measured one and three months after start of treatment. Results:IOP in both groups significantly decreased 1 and 3 months after treatment(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in range or rate of IOP reduction between the two groups. Conclusion:Additional instillation of beta-blocker results in reduced IOP in eyes treated by latanoprost alone. There is no difference in IOP reduction after instillation of beta-blocker alone or with carbonic reductase inhibitor.
