We performed cataract surgery with implantation of hydrogel intraocular lens(H60 M)in 451 eyes during 13 months through March,2001. We could follow up 276 eyes for 13 to 40 months, average 34 months. Deposit of calcium on the implanted lens was found in 213 eyes(77%). The incidence was 53 out of 62 eyes(85%)of diabetics,30 out of 34 eyes(88%)with diabetic retinopathy,79 out of 104 eyes(76%)in persons with no systemic or ocular lesions. This finding shows that implanted H60 M lens results in high rate of deposit of calcium. While diabetic eyes are more liable to produce this complication, otherwise healthy eyes are frequently involved. We advocate follow-up of patients for long period after implantation of H60 M lens.
