  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We reviewed 92 eyes of asymptomatic retinal detachment due to retinal tear. The series comprised 59 eyes with retinal tear located within lattice degeneration and other 33 eyes. Progression was prevented in 14 out of 15 eyes(93%)and in 6 out of 6 eyes(100%)respectively by cryocoagulation over the entire area,in 29 out of 32 eyes(91%)and in 21 out of 23 eyes(91%)respectively by coagulation around the area, and in 2 out of 1 eye(50%)and in 1 out of 1 eye(100%)respectively by cryoapplication to the lattice degeneration. Progression was prevented in 70% to 90% of eyes when retinal detachment had extended to the ora serrata. Rate of prevention of progression was low in eyes with linear traction to the tear. Above findings may serve as guidelines in the selection of therapeutic approach.
