Purpose:To report a case after subretinal migration of indocyanine green(ICG). Case:A 86-year-old female presented with epiretinal membrane, macular hole, and retinal detachment of 2 disc diameters in her left eye. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.7 right and 0.2 left. Results:She received phacoemulsification-aspiration,intraocular lens implantation, and vitrectomy. During attempted staining of internal limiting membrane,ICG migrated into the subretinal space through the macular hole. The retina became reattached and the macular hole closed. The subretinal ICG appeared as sharply demarcated green area. This area became atrophic 3 months later. Optical coherence tomography(OCT)showed attenuation of retinal neuroepithelium. Electroretinography showed decreased amplitudes. Perimetry showed scotoma in the nasal hemisphere including the point of fixation. Visual acuity in the affected eye was 0.02 34 months after surgery. Conclusion:Long-term presence of ICG in the subretinal space induced severe and irreversible atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium and sensory retina.
