We developed a technique that will prevent migration of indocyanine green(ICG)into the subretinal space during macular hole surgery. Following fluid-air exchange,the macular area is covered by viscoelastic material. The inner limiting membrane is then stained by ICG. We applied this technique to 6 eyes that underwent macular hole surgery. The ages ranged from 54 to 71 years. ICG angiography was performed 7 days after surgery. All the eyes showed ICG fluorescence in the posterior fundus except the macular hole and the area of internal limiting membrane peeling. Our technique was thus effective to stain a limited fundus area avoiding migration of ICG into the subretinal space.
