Purpose:To evaluate the additive effect of bunazosin hydrochloride on intraocular pressure and disc circulation in patients of normal-tension glaucoma treated by latanoprost.

Cases and Method:The study involved 9 patients of normal-tension glaucoma treated by latanoprost. The ages ranged from 57 to 76 years. The intraocular pressure(IOP)ranged from 10 to 18 mmHg,average 13.2±2.3 mmHg. Each patient received, additionally, bunazosin in one eye and placebo in the fellow eye. Measurements were made as to blood pressure, pulse rate and IOP before and 2 weeks after start of bunazosin. Blood flow in the optic disc and juxtapapillary retina was similarly measured using a Heidelberg Retina Flowmeter. Results:Blood flow in the optic disc and juxtapapillary retina showed significant increases in eyes receiving bunazosin and no changes in fellow eye. IOP decreased significantly in eyes receiving bunazosin. There were no changes in blood pressure, pulse rate,or perfusion pressure. Conclusion:Bunazosin reduces IOP and increases circulation in the optic disc and juxtapapillary retina when added to latanoprost in patients of normal-tension glaucoma.
