  • Look Inside

The effects of topically applied bunazosin hydro-chloride, an alpha-1 blocker, were studied in regard to pulsatile ocular blood flow (POBF) and visual field in patients with low-tension glaucoma (LTG). POBF analyzed by BFA (Japan BIO-RAD) in LTG (111.1±32.6μl/min) was significantly lower than that in normal subjects (186.1±43.2) or patientswith primary open-angle glaucoma (137.2±50.4). POBF in LTG gradually increased by 0.025% bun-azosin hydrochloride (twice a day) with an increase rate of 50.3% in the 3rd month, The mean decrease of intraocular pressure was 0.9mmHg. 6 eyes out of 18 showed improvement in visual field in the 3rd to 5th month. The increase rate of POBF in these eyes was significantly higher than that in unimproved eyes. Bunazosin hydrochloride prom-ises to be as a therapeutic drug for LTG in the future.
