We evaluated the additive ocular hypotensive effect of bunazosin hydrochloride in 20 eyes of 20 glaucoma patients. All the eyes had been treated with topical latanoprost and timolol gel. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma 6 eyes,normal-tension glaucoma 13 eyes, and congenital glaucoma 1 eye. The intraocular pressure(IOP)averaged 14.3±2.6 mmHg before addition of bunazosin and 13.8±2.1 mmHg 3 months after addition(p=0.26). In 6 eyes with IOP of 15 mmHg or more,it averaged 17.2±1.8 mmHg before addition of bunazosin and 14.3±2.8 mmHg 3 months after addition(p<0.05). In 13 eyes with IOP of less than 15 mmHg,it averaged 12.7±1.2 mmHg before addition of bunazosin and 13.5±1.6 mmHg 3 months after addition(p<0.07). The findings show that additive use of bunazosin is effective when IOP is 15 mmHg or over when treated by latanoprost and timolol gel.
