  • Look Inside

The four-vessel occlusion method introduced by Pulsinelli et al is widely used as an experimental model for reversible forebrain ischemia in rats. However, this model has a major problem in the difficulty assuring complete occlusion of the verte-bral arteries by electrocauterization through the alar foramina of the first cervical vertebra. Anatomi-cal basis of the vertebral artery suggested by Sugio et al indicates that the vertebral artery at the level of the second cervical vertebra is visible.
