1．はじめに

　positron emission tomography（PET）の出現によって，ヒトにおける脳機能や脳障害の病態の研究が著しく進歩しつつある。

　大脳基底核は運動調節の中枢の一つとして重要な役割を果たし，その障害によってパーキンソン病などの臨床的に重要な疾患を生じることはよく知られている。さらに最近では，大脳基底核が認識など心理過程にも関与する可能性が指摘され^1），多くの関心を集めている。現在までに基礎および臨床的立場から莫大な数の研究が大脳基底核についてなされているが，その機能についてはなお未解決の問題が多く残されている。
