  • Look Inside

An instance of an extremely rare subdural tera-toma of the left middle cranial fossa is presented.

The patient was 19 year old female who was admitted to Osaka University Hospital with left sided exophthalmos, visual disturbance and ab-ducence palsy.

Radiograms of the skull revealed enlargement of the left middle fossa and calcification in it's anterior margin.

The left caritid angiography showed marked posterior displacement of the carotid siphon and upward displacement of the left middle cerebral artery.

A subdural cystic tumor containing thick yellow-ish green fluid was found at operation and was removed including a mural nodule subtotally.

The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient is doing well 18 months following surgery.

Histological examination of the surgical specimen revealed tumor consisted of stratified squamous epithelium, ciliated columnar epithelium forming ducts, structures resembling salivary gland, and collections of lymphoid cells which were scattered in the fibrous connective tissue. On these findings the diagnosis of teratoma was made.
