  • Look Inside

An attempt was done in order to make an electro-physiological analysis of the metrazol-induced seizure by means of the EEG recorded with depth electrodes. Fractional administration of the metrazol solution (10 mg/30 sec) was given in unanaesthetized cats.

1. The minimum dosage of the metrazol to induce the multiple spike discharge associated with convul-sion, that is, the major seizure was 22. 5 mg per kg of body weight.

2. Body weight is a significant factor to determine the threshold dosage.

3. The excitation induced by the metrazol was as a criterion, indicated by sharp waves or spikes in EEG. They were originated at the subcortical nuclei in motor system. In contrast to it, the origination at sensory or limbic systems was found in none of the cases.

4. It is, therefore, to be concluded that the metra-zol-induced seizure is of the subcortical origin in motor system.
