  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Ten neurologically normal controls and 10 patients of the central nervous system with accentuated spinal refrexes were tested on evoked electromyograph before and after oral administration of Diazepam. Post-administration records revealed the increment of the facillitation curve and the shifting of the recovery curve to right downwards. There appear to show the decrement of the total excitation level of the anterior motoneurone pool in spite of the increment of the level of the anterior motoneurone proper, therefore, the suppression of the spinal reflex. It may be concluded that the muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant actions of Diazepam are due to the decrement of the toatal excitation level of the anterior motoneurone pool of the spine, secondarily due to the excitation of the central suppression mechanism.
