Conclusion

Five cases of primary brain tumor which had been erroneously diagnosed as cerebro-vascular disease were described and retro-scopic considerations upon the diagnostic er-rors were made. All of the cases in the pre-sent report were above middle age from 37 to 72 years: Some patients had episodes of cerebrovascular stroke, some showed clinical improvement in the course of the illness, and some presented a symptomatology of diffuse involvement of the brain. Although there was no definite clinical evidence of intracra-nial space-occupying lesions, a serious con-sideration should have been given upon the possibility of presence of the brain tumor. Merely thinking of such possibility would have stimulated us to perform the more de-tailed observations, leading successfully to a correct diagnosis. It should be stressed that the laboratory examinations, especially cerebral angiography and electroencephalo-graphy, may be of utmost value in the dif-ferential diagnosis of doubtful cases.
