  • Look Inside

In fifty three elderly patients with hemi-plegia due to cerebral vascular disorders (hemiplegia group) and thirty five healthy elderly persons (control group), studies were made to determine the coagulation factors. This group of patients with hemiplegia was further divided into two groups of 13 patients with cerebral hemorrhage (hemorrhage group) and 40 patients with cerebromalacia (malacia group) from the clinical diagnosis given to the patients. The results obtained were as follows:

1) No statistically significant difference was found in full blood coagulation time of Lee-White, thromboplastin generation test of Biggs and Douglas, factor V activity or serum antithrombin activity among three groups of patients and the control group.

2) In the hemiplegia group, both the pro-thrombin concentration determined by two stage method of Ware and Seegers and fac-tor VII activity were significantly higher than those in the control group, while total plasma antithrombin activity was significa-ntly lower in the hemiplegia group.
