We have experienced a case of intracranial melanoma, occured in an 21 year-old man, who had congenitaly a wide distributed pigmented moles on the chest and back, as if he weared a black waistcoat, and smaller ones were found on the head, arms and legs.
On the clinical examinations we could not notice the character of brain tumor, and the patient died after a pneumoventriculographic examination.
At autopsy it was discoverd that the black tumor, 6.0×4.5×5.0cm insize, was located in the left temporal tip and was localized shar-ply from the brain substance, and moreover several black spots were found on the cerebral and cerebellar surface.
Microscopically, the tumor contained many round polygonal nervus cells together with a few spindle cells together with a few spindle cells. The cytoplasm of nervus cells was quite large and the nuclei was bright which has numerous mitotic figures. The pigment was assumed to be of the character of melanine, since of failed to give an ironreaction with appropiate microchemieal tests.
The black spots on cerebral and cerebellar surface were not malignant figures.
