The rate of diastolic pressure to isovolu-metric period and to tension time (Pd/DAZ, Pd/ASZ) were measured under a variety of experimental conditions designed to use ca-thecholamines intravenously in dogs. Then correlations between Pd/DAZ or Pd/ASZ and rate of rise in left ventricular pressure (V-ΔP/ΔT), in aortic pressure (AO-ΔP/ΔT), aortic volume elasticity (V. E.), total peri-pheral resistance (T.P.R.) or stroke volume (Vs) were evaluated.

The results were as follows;1. There were apparent positive correlations between Pd/DAZ or Pd/ASZ and V-ΔP/ΔT (r=0.9424 or 0.9746), therefore Pd/DAZ and Pd/ASZ could be substitute for V-ΔP/ΔTwith a view to estimating left ventricular contractile force.

2. One component of Pd/DAZ and Pd/ASZ (Pd, DAZ and ASZ) could not be substitute for these ratio, because the close correlations of Pd/DAZ or Pd/ASZ with these components were not observed.

3. Pd/DAZ or Pd/ASZ correlated slightly toAO-ΔP/ΔT but not apparent. Therefore Ao-ΔP/ΔT could not be employ for evaluation of left ventricular contractile force.

4. AOΔP/ΔT was correlated slightly with V. E., but related closely to 1/T. P. R. and VS. Then AO-ΔP/ΔT was affected by beha-vior of left ventricular contractile force and arterial system.
