The author measured the gas tension of the blood obtained from the various parts of the body by direct puncture of the left atrium & cardiac catheterization by the bubble method. The results concerning the cardopulmonary hemodynamics are as follows.

1. By observing the variation of the blood gas tension in the pulmonary circulation, it is revealed that the left atrialmixed venous blood Po2 gradient represents the intrapulmonary venous admixture, i. e. the oxygen intake which has relationship with the degree of elevation of the pulmonary arterial pressure and the histological changes in the lung.

2. The left atrial-mixed arterial blood Po2 gradient is considered to be the intracardiac venous admixture which became large in case of mitral insufficiency, i. e. case of the left ventricular hyper-trophy. This gives the influence upon Po2 of the mixed arterial blood.

As a conclusion, it was testified that the mixed arterial blood did not reflect the pulmonary venous blood directly but the alveolar-arterial blood Po2 gradient was divided into two parts by the left atrial blood, namely the intrapulmonary venous admixture and the intracardiac one. This fact has introduced a new information to the pathophysiological study of the pulmonary circulation.
