日本経済団体連合会が定義する未来社会としてのSociety 5.0は「デジタル革新と多様な人々の想像・創造力の融合によって，社会の課題を解決し，価値を創造する社会」であり，これによって学問領域の既存の常識に囚われない研究が加速していくと考える。しかし，どのような学問領域の融合があったとしても，「基本原理の解明」を目指す基礎研究がなされているゆえに「新たな知や技術の発見」があることを忘れてはならない。本稿ではSociety 5.0における集中治療領域とかかわるであろう多分野の基礎研究を概説していく。

Society 5.0 as a future society is defined as “a society that solves social issues and creates value through the fusion of digital innovation and the imagination and creativity of diverse people,” and we believe that in Society 5.0, research that is not bound by existing wisdom in academic fields will accelerate. However, regardless of the fusion of academic disciplines, we must not forget that “the discovery of new knowledge and technologies” is possible because of basic research aimed at “elucidating fundamental principles”. This paper outlines basic research in various fields that will be involved in intensive care in Society 5.0.
