Nurse-led research in intensive care involves a variety of issues. In particular, with regard to research methods, a relatively large number of studies are characterized by qualitative research, which is not often used in medical research. However, this may be a feature unique to Japan and may not be generalizable to nursing science in the rest of the world. In addition, because of the large amount of qualitative research, when beginners learn to conduct research, they often learn qualitative methodologies. However, most clinical research is quantitative, and there are few instructors who can teach these methods, which may be one of the reasons for erroneous methods and analyses. In recent years, nurse-led multi-center research has gradually begun to be conducted, and it is hoped that this will accumulate know-how and become more widespread in the future.
