本稿では，感染症多数患者に関する概念を概説したのち，考慮すべき病原体を「自然発生的に流行する可能性のある疾患」「海外から持ち込まれる可能性のある疾患」「テロリズムなど，人為的に発生させられる可能性がある疾患」に分けて紹介する。「感染症・生物災害対応に関連する諸項目の行動基準」の項では，患者を特定の感染症と的確に想起するための方法，感染対策，移送の方法などについて触れる。「多数感染症患者発生時のICUの運用」の項では，実際に感染症患者が多数発生する前に，マニュアルを策定し，机上訓練や実動演習を行うことの重要性を強調する。

In this section, we outline the concepts of the terms “endemic”, “epidemic”, “pandemic”, and introduce clinically important pathogens divided into “pathogens that can spontaneously cause an epidemic”, “pathogens that can be brought in from overseas” and “pathogens that can be artificially delivered by terrorism'. We also explain how to know the status of infectious diseases and properly diagnose, isolate and transport patients with infectious diseases. Last, in “Operation of the ICU with multiple patients with infectious diseases ‘' , we emphasize the importance of formulating protocols and conducting desk training and practical exercises before the actual situation of multiple patients with infectious diseases.
