　症例研究は，数年にわたり，一般カンファレンス，回診，症例供覧などを通じて，医学生の学習訓練として利用されている．更に最近では，医療技術学，また医学と関係ない教育にも利用されている．処理及び管理の決定が問題となる症例を提供する手段として，評価を得てきた．しかし，教育者はしばしば医療技術学にとって，症例研究が学習の最大好機であることを認識していない．症例研究に含まれている過程を明らかにすることが，症例研究の利用を，より適当に効果的にするのに役立つであろう．

The case study^*1 has been in use for many years as a learning exercise for medical students through general conferences, rounds^2*, and case presentations^*3. More recently, it has been used in medical technology and in nonmedical education. It has gained popularity^*4 as a means of presenting cases involving managerial and administrative decisions. However, educators sometimes fail to^*5 recognize the value of the case study as an opportunity for maximum learning in medical technology. Clarification of the processes^*6 involved in case study will help to make its use more appropriate and effective.
