  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Evaluation of laboratory tests should go on all the time. The student should be encouraged to ask, "Why do we need this test *1in our bag of tricks ?" There are two really spectacular places this question can be answered.

*2Give the student a weak Kell antibody but do not give him any antihuman globulin. He learns very quickly that a Coombs test may make the difference between life and death.

*3The second place is in bacteriology. Give him a broth culture, tell him it contains, among other things, Salmonella. But only give him blood plates to work with. He soon learns that without differential media the task is nearly impossible.
