I．はじめに

　上顎癌の治療として浅側頭動脈より動注療法が行われているが，照射終了頃に同側の末梢性顔面神経麻痺を生じた6例を経験したので報告する。

　Six cases of peripheral facial nerve palsy induced by infusion therapy for maxillary carcinoma were reported.

　5-Flurouracil of 250mg was injected via a polyethylene tube which was inserted to the external carotid artery through the superficial temporal artery, and irradiated by Liniac X-ray. Treatments were given 5 days a week at 200 rads per session to a total of 5000 to 6000 rads.

　Facial nerve palsy appeared around the time of the completion of irradiation. All cases showed normal lacrimation test, and the site of lesion was assumed to be the distal temporal segment rather than the geniculate ganglion.

　All cases showed complete recovery of palsy with-in 4 months.

　The etiology of facial nerve palsy was assumed to be the circulatory disorder caused by the infusion therapy.

　The fact that the facial nerve palsy was caused by treatment in the external carotid artery area is of special interest and further research will be enlightening.
