I．はじめに
筆者と協同研究者は，慢性関節リウマチ患者の扁桃には筆者らの観察例ではすべて感染病巣が何らの症状を示すことなく，隠された状態で存在していることを数次にわたって報告7〜12）してきた。
最近このような現象を立証した症例は200例に達したが，この現象が無選択200例の漫性関節リウマチ患者についてすべてそうだとなると，一つの普遍的な事実として認めてもよいのではないかと思うが，このことがさらに真実性を増すためには，多くの追試による確認にまたねばならない。また，このような追試を得るためには，リウマチ学会とともに耳鼻咽喉科学会に対して，この問題についての理解を得ることに努めなければならない。
The author has advocated his hypothesis that in the tonsils of the patients with chronic rheumatoid arthritis there would be exist the infectious foci which produce no clinical local signs.
In observation of 200 cases of chronic rheumatoid arthritis the author clarified the characteristics of these latent chronic tonsillitis anatomically, histologically and bacteriologically, then showed the effects of tonsillectomy on these cases.
