YAMAMOTO examined 1,213 Junior High School Students in view of acquiring status on the relation of hypertrophic tonsils in connec-tion to other disnases in the field of otolaryn-gology. The degree of tonsil hypertrophy is noted according to McKenzie's classifications. The largest number of students were affected with 1st degree hypertrophy which was follow-ed by 2nd and 3rd. Only 1.5 percent of the total number had been tonsillectomized. Chro-nic tonsillitis was found mostly among those who were affected with 2nd degree hypertrophy; which was followed by 1st and 3rd degrees in their order, but, it was rather surprising to find so very few chronic tonsillitis in among the 3rd. Ear diseases were seen mostly in the group who harbored 2nd degree hypertrophy. That tonsillectomy having favorable effect on chronic affections of the ear and nose appear-ed to be established.
