喉頭癌の遠隔転移例は，われわれが臨床上遭遇するものとしては，比較的少ないといえる。そして，転移部位では，肺や肝が多く，骨への転移はきわめて少ない。その理由としては，喉頭癌の臨床的特殊性からみて，癌発見が早く早期治療が行なわれやすいことのために，遠隔転移例自体が少なく，またたとえ骨転移が起こつても，それの臨床症状発現がおそく，存命中に骨腫瘍の症状を示すにいたらないことが考えられる。
実際には，内外の癌患者剖検例の統計的観察によると，喉頭癌の少なくとも10％には骨転移が発見されており，この点日常診療上も認識を新たにして対処すべきである。
A man, aged 59, who was operated upon, 6 months previously, for laryngeal cancer was suddenly attacked by a motor paralysis of the legs. The patient, in the past, had been given post-operative radiotherapy with cobalt irradiation combined with administration of bleomycin.
The principle clinical feature was myeloparalysis due to metastatic growths into the thoracic vertebrae, which was confirmed later by an autopsy. The patient died of respiratory disturbance and general weakness.
The autopsy showed metastatic involvements of the lungs and thoracic vertebrae but, no lymphatic metastasis was to be found anywhere.
