　緒論

　上顎悪性腫瘍の臨床的報告は少くないが，著者らもまた上顎癌の研究に附随して行つた臨床的観察を，その予後の追求の出来た例について報告することとした。

　患者は昭和24年1月より昭和37年12月末日まで14年間に，長崎大学医学部附属病院耳鼻咽喉科を訪れた，上顎悪性腫瘍の患者のうち，その予後を追求することの出来た126例について行つたもので，主として予後を中心として観察されたものである。

A clinical observation on 126 cases of ma-lignant tumor of the maxillary sinus thatoccured in the past 14 years was made in the Otolaryngological Deparment of Nagasaki Uni-versity. The following results were reported.

One hundred fifteen cases consisting of 71 males and 55 females were operated upon; the operability was 91.3%.

The youngest was 12 years old; the oldest was 77 while the peak in occurrence was seen in the fifth decade.

The most frequent complaint was swelling of the cheek which occurred in more than 1/3 ofall cases and another 1/4 complained of tooth-aches.

Pathological observations revealed 77 cases of carcinoma, 14 cases of sarcoma and 2 mali-gnant adamantinoma.

For treatments operation was ptincipally employed which was combined with irradiation effected by radium-implantation within the wound immediately following the operation. Postoperative survival rate was 11.2% for 5 years; 23% for 3 years.
