　1．緒言

　近年，化学薬物抗生物質等の急激な進歩発達により，重篤な中耳炎の合併症は減少し，ことに耳性頭蓋内合併症は，甚しく減少した感がある。

　のみならず，この事のために，この種の合併症はその臨床像にもある程度の変化が起きたように感ぜられる。

A statistical study on cerebral complications of ear disease recorded at the Otolaryngolog-ical Department of Yokohama University Me-dical School for the past 17 years is made and the recent trend in the progress of this dise-ase is also added. It is shown that while me-ningitis of aural origin is in the decrease yet, cerebral abcesses due to similar cause seemed to be on the point of increase.

The authors point out that the latter tend-ency may be due to the advent of antibiotics which will eliminate acute infections only to cause cerebral abcesses.
