  • Look Inside

Otogenic intracranial complications are relatively rare in incidence, but one of the severe and highly mortal complications in the field of the oto-rhino-laryngology.

Case review was done at our department for the last 12 years between ,January 1975 and December 1981, and yielded 5 cases. And case review on the circumscribed labyrinthitis was also made and revealed 57 cases. There are some tendency of increase in the incidence of the circumscribedlabyrinthitis with positive fistula test due to Cholesteatoma otitis media.

Case reports on the recent 2 patients who were quite complexed in their progress among the 5 cases were made. The literature was reviewed and a brief discussion on the incidence and on the clinical characteristics of the latent form was made. Even in the antibiotic era, the definite diagnosis and surgical treatment are necessary for better prognosis.
