I．はじめに

　通常，眼窩内異物の症状としては，炎症，感染などに起因するものが多いが，われわれは，眼球後方への異物刺入により，4年後に一側性眼球突出を来たした症例を経験した．transcranial superolateral approachにより，眼球後方の異物を摘出するとともに，眼窩のlateral decompressionを併用し，眼球突出の軽減を計った．

　本症例の眼球突出は，4年を経過した異物の刺激による眼窩上壁の肥厚が原因と考えられ，非常に稀な症例であるので，若干の考察を加えて報告する．

A case of unilateral exophthalmos, caused by intraorbital foreign body is reported. The patient is a 6-year-old girl. When she was one and half year old, a plastic chopstick penetrated into her left orbit through the upper eyelid. After the accident, she had been almost asymptomatic until 4 years later, when unilateral exophthalmos and visual disturbance of left eye developed.

The patient was admitted to our hospital on October 5th 1978 for the purpose of operation. Neurological examinations on admission revealed left exophthalmos of 6 mm, left visual disturbance (LV 0.3) and downward deviation of the left eye globe.
