Ⅰ．はじめに

　脳下垂体破壊術は，乳房や前立腺等に原発したhor-mone dependentな癌の退縮を目的として，欧米においてはかなり積極的に行われ^1,6,27），40-50％の症例において腫瘤を縮小しうること，また，それ以上の率で鎮痛効果をあげうることなどが明らかにされてきた^18,20,28）．われわれも再発乳癌の9症例に対し，計10回の定位的下垂体破壊術を行い，除痛効果に関して興味ある結果を得たので報告する．

Stereotaxic hypophysectomy was performed in nine patients with advanced breast carcinoma. Only one pa-tient showed an objective remission in the form of de-creased size of the chest wall ulcer after the operation. However, all but one patient did get relief of pain last-ing for months.

In one of these cases, where hypophyseal ablation was carried out under local anesthesia, pain relief was ascer-tained immediately after the ablation. i.e., during the operation.
