Ⅰ．緒言

　脳動静脈奇形（以下AVMと約す）に対する外科的療法は，手術法はもとより，その手術適応が予後の上でも重要である．特に最近の保存的療法の報告をみると，かつていわれていた程，予後は悪くなく，死亡率だけからいうと10-20％とかなり低い．そこで著者等は，当教室で経験した88例のAVMについて，その症状，手術法，手術成績等を検討し，更にこれらの症例に予後調査を行い若干の知見を得たので，保存的療法の予後と共に報告する．

There were 88 patients with arteriovenous malformation of the brain who were admitted to the neurosurgical department of Tohoku University School of Medicine from 1959 to 1971.

There were 68 males and 20 females. Forty eight or 54 percent of all arteriovenous malformations had a history of hemorrhage and twenty eight or 32 percent had a history of seizures had a peak age between 11-20. The size of arteriovenous malformations was estimated by angiography.
