はじめに

　躁うつ病の成因としてモノアミン仮説が提唱されてから現在に至るまで，数多くの研究が集積されてきている。初期のモノアミン仮説は，その後いくつかの修正がなされ，現在は，ノルアドレナリン（NE）あるいはセロトニン（5HT）のどちらかの減少や増加といういわば単純な仮説にとどまらず，両者の相互作用説，あるいは後シナプス受容体の変化に注目したモノアミン過剰説などへと発展している^54）。

　躁うつ病の生化学的成因を知る試みの一つとして，このモノアミン仮説に基づいて，躁うつ病患者の体液のアミンおよびその関連物質の分析が広く行なわれている。体液研究の場合は，中枢神経系から直接試料を採取するのではないので，測定物質の中枢由来性あるいは中枢の機能との類似性が常に問題となる。しかし一方では，対象患者の症状の評価が同時に可能であるという長所も有している。

Abstract

Concerning with the monoamine hypothesis of affective disorders, many studies on monoamines and their related substances were performed in the body fluids of the patients. In this paper we introduce four studies developed in our laboratory.

1) Monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in the platelets of unipolar depression

MAO activity in platelets of ten patients dia-gnosed as primary major depressive disorder was determined by the method of Murphy et al. using β-phenylethylamine as a substrate. Increased acti-vity of platelet MAO was observed in the de-pressed patients.
