国立がんセンターにおいて，過去8年弱に経験した原発性皮膚悪性腫瘍は，348例でその内訳は棘細胞ガン201例，基底細胞ガン58例，ページェット病19例，ボーエン病19例，悪性黒色腫32例，皮膚線維肉腫8例，カポジー肉腫1例，悪性リンパ腫18例，汗線ガン3例である。この内，棘細胞ガン201例について，おもに死亡せるものについて記載する。死亡者数は58例（男43，女15）で，その内，腫瘍死は42例（男30，女12）である。この42例について，性，年齢，誘因，発生部位，既治療，当院での治療，経過などについて記載し，併わせて全症例について，比較検討し，その死因の一端をうかがい，治療に役立てば幸いである。
棘細胞ガンの全症例は201例（男145例，女56例）で，その中，重複ガンは7例（予宮ガン，胃ガン各2例，胃ガンと肝ガンの3重複ガン1例，甲状腺ガン1例，基底細胞ガンと喉頭ガンの3重複ガン1例）である。重複の因果関係は論ずるところではないが，放射線照射部位において，基底細胞ガン，棘細胞ガンおよび喉頭ガンの発生したことはあるいは一因かもしれない。
Fourty-two of 201 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin during the past 8 years were considered to have died of the disease itself.
Statistic studies on the patients' age, sex, location, preceding diseases of the canser, TNM classification, treatment in the early stage, clinical course, and metastases were performed. To find the causative factors which induced the patients' death. These factors were compared between died and survived group.
The choice of the treatment in the early stage were more important factor than the early diagnosis and treatment.
There were still some cases which took malignant courses resisting to the treatment in spite of almost the complete therapy in the early stage.
