はじめに
温度刺激検査は，以前より前庭系機能検査として広く普及しており，また最近前庭誘発筋電位（vestibular evoked myogenic potential：VEMP）も前庭系機能検査として広く行われるようになってきた。しかし，これらの検査は外耳道が閉塞している症例では十分な刺激が伝わらず，正確な評価は不可能である。
今回われわれは外耳道および小脳橋角部に発生した神経鞘腫症例を経験し，また電気刺激によるVEMP検査を試みた。症例を報告するとともに，同検査の前庭機能検査における役割について考察した。
A 57-year-old woman presented with left total hearing loss, episodic vertigo, and headache. Her left auditory ear canal was filled with a soft mass.
MRI showed a tumors in the left cerebellopon-tine angle and middle ear to the external ear canal. On neuro-otological examinations, caloric res-ponses and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) were absent in the left, while galvanically evoked myogenic potentials (G-VEMP) were still present. Pathological diagnosis was schwannoma. After neurosurgery, G-VEMP in the left disappear-ed.
Our results suggested that G-VEMP could be useful for evaluation of the vestibular function in patients with the obstructed external auditory canal.
