I．はじめに

　乳児の舌根囊胞は気道の閉塞により呼吸困難をきたし重篤な状態に陥り，死に至ることもある。

　今回われわれは，囊胞摘出後も呼吸状態の改善に苦慮した1例を経験したので報告する。

　Cysts at the base of tongue are rare in infants. They often cause respiratory disturbance. We report a case of a baby,2 months after birth,developing wheezing and retraction of the chest wall.

　By fiberscopy a cyst at the base of tongue was found. Although the operation was performed,the retraction of the chest wall was not improved for a long time. It was considered that the reason why retraction was not improved soon was the obstruction of the air way caused atelectasis of the lung. Therefore,cysts at the base of tongue in infants should be operated as soon as possible.
