　網膜剥離手術患者の他眼について，1989年までの4年間に，当院で網膜剥離の手術を受けた患者331名を検討した。過去に網膜剥離の手術を受け，さらに今回他眼に網膜剥離の手術を受けた症例数と，今回初回手術を受け，経過観察中に他眼に異常を認めた症例の合計は，56例16.9％で，網膜剥離23例，網膜裂孔33例であった。他眼の異常を発見するまでに要した期間は，初診時を含め1か月以内が最も多く39例70％であった。これらの症例に対する治療結果は良好で，早期発見のためには，眼底検査と患者教育が重要と思われた。

We evaluated the fate of fellow eye in 331 unilat-eral cases of retinal detachment. All the eyes were followed up for at least 6 months after initial surgery. Retinal detachment developed in the fel-low eye in 23 patients and retinal breaks in 33. In 39 cases, 70%, these conditions in the fellow eye weredetected within one month after surgery for the other eye. Therapeutic outcome in these fellow eyes was fair to good. We stress the need of minute examination of the fellow eyes and education of patients with apparently unilateral retinal detach-ment.
