　徳島大学眼科で1993年から1994年の2年間に手術を行った，特発性黄斑部網膜上膜21例22眼の手術成績について報告した。発症から初診までの期間は平均11か月，発症から手術までの期間は平均13か月であった。手術術式は硝子体手術下に膜剥離を行い，必要に応じて液—空気置換術を追加した。術後6か月以上経過観察できた18眼の術後最高視力は，改善が15眼（83％），不変が3眼（17％）で，悪化例はなかった。術後4か月までに最高視力に達した症例は，18眼中12眼（67％）であった。術後合併症として白内障の進行，再増殖がみられたが，特に白内障は視力低下に大きく影響を及ぼした。

We surgically treated 22 eyes of idiopathic epiretinal membrane during the foregoing 2-year period. The mean period from the onset to the first ination was 11 months. The interval between onset of subjective symptoms and surgery averaged 13 months. The standard surgical procedure included vitrectomy with membrane peeling. Fluid-air exchange was performed in selected eyes. Eighteen eyes were followed up for 6 months or more after surgery. The visual acuity improved in 15 eyes, 83%, and remained the same in 3 eyes, 17%. The maximum improvement in visual acuity took place within 4 months in 12 eyes, 67%. Postsurgical complications included progression of cataract and recurrence of proliferation. Progression of cataract was the chief cause of deterioration of visual acuity.
