　緑内障および高眼圧症患者62名111眼を対象に，現在市販されているβ-遮断点眼剤であるチモロール，カルテオロール，ベフノロールを，相互に他種のβ—遮断点眼剤に変更した際の眼圧変動を検討した。延変更回数204回の統計学的な解析では，眼圧は変更後4か月にわたり有意に下降し，特にベフノロールからチモロールヘの変更，カルテオロールからチモロールヘの変更，チモロールからベフノロールヘの変更において有意であった。ただし，点眼剤の変更による眼圧下降効果は，変更時の眼圧および変更時の患者の年齢と有意に相関し，また，患者の性別，緑内障の症型，ピロカルピンの併用の有無による相違が認められた。以上から，β—遮断点眼剤の変更による眼圧下降効果は，点眼剤それぞれの眼圧下降効果の差よりも，むしろ，他のさまざまな背景因戸によって左右されるものであると解釈された。

We evaluated the relative efficacy of three beta-blocker ophthalmic solutions in 111 eyes with glau-coma or ocular hypertension. After the patients were treated by topical instillation of either timolol, befunolol or carteolol, the medication was switched to another of the three. The switching of medication totalled 204 times in the series.

During 4 months after switching, the intraocularpressure significantly decreased at an overall evalu-ation. The hypotensive effect was more marked after switching from befunolol to timolol, from carteolol to timolol, and from timolol to befunolol.

The hypotensive effect after switching was sig-nificantly correlated with the level of intraocular pressure at the time of switching and with the age of patient. The effect was also influenced by sex of the patient. type of glaucoma and parallel use of pilocarpine. The observed hypotensive effect after switching from one beta-blocker to another appear-ed to be influenced more by these background factors than difference of the preparation.
